History
Valomainos Oy was founded in the autumn of 1962; the articles of incorporation were dated at the founding general meeting at that time. Valomainos Oy was entered into the Trade Register on 22 February 1963.
The founder of the company, Kurt Rahmel, had worked previously as the supervisor of Pohjoismainen Sähkö Oy’s illuminated advertising operations, and as Managing Director of Sähkö-Neon Oy. From the early days of Valomainos Oy, the founder’s electro-technical training in Germany (engineer) provided the company with an excellent foundation for managing well in the competitive illuminated advertising field. Kurre was also known as a frugal man. By the early 1970s, the company had become multiply skilled in the illuminated advertising field, employing 30–40 persons. Many of the company’s present competitors have their roots in Valomainos Oy.
The energy crisis was devastating to the entire field, and the 6-month prohibition on lighting illuminated advertising displays imposed by the Government abolished 75 % of the jobs also at Valomainos Oy.
Kurre continued to lead the company until 1986, when his family sold Valomainos Oy to its present owner. With the exception of a few years, the company has operated with the present ownership base.
Today, Valomainos Oy is a company that holds sustainable development as a driving thought. The company aims to implement illuminated advertising solutions that are energy-saving, luminous and of a high-quality. It also aims to fulfil the needs of its customers with on-time delivery of high-quality service.
